DIE CHOKING Leaks First Vicious Single From III LP With Cvlt Nation Premiere; October Street Date Through The Compound Recs Locked

Philadelphia’s unchained grind trio, DIE CHOKING, will release their third recording and very first full-length with III this October through Earsplit’s label faction, The Compound Recs, and the first single from the record has been leaked through an exclusive Cvlt Nation-hosted premiere of “Death’s Waveform.”

With an already unfuckwithable track record built through their self-titled debut and subsequent II 7” releases and their insatiable need to play their tunes at maximum speed in the live setting as often as possible, DIE CHOKING — featuring ex and current members of Total Fucking Destruction, Cop problem, and Burden — is about to take things to the next level with their debut full-length. All in all, III is one of the heaviest grindcore albums ever conceived. Written during the shitty Northeastern Winter months, it is an album stripped of overproduction, performed with devastating efficiency, and dripping with a foul aggression that is frequently absent in today’s extreme music landscape. III was recorded, engineered, and mixed by Will Yip (Lauryn Hill, Circa Survive, Cop Problem) at Studio 4 and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Baptists, From Ashes Rise, Nails). There are no samples, no triggers. The band simply drilled the takes until they hit it.

Issues founding bassist/vocalist Paul Herzog quote on the upcoming album, “DIE CHOKING’s forthcoming album III is a dastardly Americanized reinterpretation of Plato’s allegory of the cave. It is a dense work and presents a politicized metaphysical cycle: origin, liberation, corruption, falter, violent degradation, decay, and rebirth. III is a brutal reference to both ancient and modern interpretations of existence, morality, and politics. This album is a short, simple and a delightfully entropic vision. It presents a nihilistic emergence from ignorance that is met not by a joyous embrace of eternal knowledge but is heralded by a vision of an eternal, ever-stretching graveyard. It is here that coffin after coffin and grave upon grave stretches into the forever.”

More than two months before its official release, DIE CHOKING issues the first single of the monolithic III’s third track, “Death’s Waveform,” through an exclusive premiere at Cvlt Nation. In less than a minute-and-a-half, the trio dispatches some of the most angular and jagged riffage and pummeling percussive execution one can envision.

Endure the rapid deployment of DIE CHOKING’s “Death’s Waveform” at Cvlt Nation AT THIS LOCATION.

The previously-released video trailer from the III recording sessions is also viewable HERE.

As with their prior duo of 7” releases, Earsplit-forged DIY label The Compound Recs will release III directly in conjunction with the band. The digital will see release on October 8th, and the vinyl will ship the week of October 23rd. The vinyl is being pressed in a run of 500 copies on 180-gram wax in three crazy blue color variants in juxtaposition with the cover art designed by DIE CHOKING guitarist Jeffrey V Daniels — 200 on Blues Of The Mighty Haze, 200 on Blue & Bone Splatter Milky Clear, and 100 A Side / B Side black base with 2 blue Splatter, exclusive to The Compound.

Preorders for the Blues Of The Mighty Haze and Blue & Bone Splatter Milky Clear versions are available via DIE CHOKING right HERE and the limited A Side / B Side black base with 2 blue Splatter edition via The Compound HERE. Digital preorders will be made available in the very near, bleak future.

DIE CHOKING continues their ongoing live rampage — a killing spree which has not ceased since the band’s inception — with a plethora of new shows confirmed through the coming months straight through the release of III. Highlights of the incoming mayhem include a headlining show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn on July 29th, a support slot for the legendary Catharsis in Philly on August 7th, a set at Riotous Outburst Fall-Fest 4 in Providence on September 24th, and the band’s first West Coast US tour which is coming together for October. DIE CHOKING: Debut LP From Philadelphia Hypergrind Trio To See Late Summer Release Via The Compound; New Tour Dates Confirmed

die choking-live2015 [photo by Dante Torrieri]
Philadelphia’s hypergrind violators, DIE CHOKING, will release their debut full-length LP, III, through The Compound Recs late this Summer, as the band begins their most rigorous tour schedule to date in the coming weeks.

III was recorded in April with Will Yip at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania (Lauryn Hill, Circa Survive, Blacklisted) capturing DIE CHOKING’s most intense material yet with absolutely superior sound and production, the band then sanctioning Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Integrity, From Ashes Rise, Nails) for its mastering. With seemingly implausible heaviness delivered at an absolutely unstoppable velocity, the eleven tracks on III deliver even faster BPM-rates and more complicated arrangements than the band’s prior releases, the new material merging more elements of hardcore punk and crust with their blinding speed/grind metal. Socio-political topics as intense as the music itself permeate each blazing anthem, which continue the ongoing theme carrying through from their smoldering self-titled debut and subsequent II 7” releases, with tracks XI through XXI. The impending debut LP from Philly’s most unhinged act promises to be one of the most violent, high-speed releases of 2015.

DIE CHOKING will partner with The Compound, the underworld label faction of Earsplit, for the release of III, as with both of their prior 7” EPs. The album will be issued in September on all digital platforms as well as three color variations of 180-gram colored LP with exclusive colors and merch bundle packages. The cover artwork, confirmed street date and more will be issued in the coming days, followed by new official videos, audio samples and more from III. See the III album trailer HERE.

Purchase the final copies of DIE CHOKING’s II 7” on red wax including an actual document serving as a living will, and the self-titled debut 7” on black wax via The Compound, RIGHT HERE.

While DIE CHOKING tours and plays live on a fairly intense regular basis already, the group’s most intense touring yet is in store for the rest of this year and well into next. New July shows booked in Montclair, New Jersey on the 1st — a benefit for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention — followed by a trio of shows in Philadelphia, New York City and another city to be confirmed on July 10th through 12th. Another run will see the band raid Baltimore, Knoxville and Asheville July 17th through 19th. DIE CHOKING will close the month, headlining Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn on July 29th. August is already being booked as the band was just confirmed as support for the legendary Catharsis in Philly on August 7th, with more Summer shows to be announced in the days ahead and October West Coast US and February 2016 European tours to follow.

Stand by for a barrage of DIE CHOKING updates in the impending weeks.

DIE CHOKING: Frenzied Philly Trio To Record Debut LP With Will Yip; Gear Gods Drum Feature Posted + Mini-Tour With Artificial Brain Locked

die choking-cohen [photo by Charlie Gibb]

Philadelphia’s frenzied trio, DIE CHOKING, has completed the writing process of thirteen brand new tracks and is preparing to enter Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania the first week-and-a-half of April in order to lay down what will become their debut LP.

With an unyielding, uncompromising and unfuckingstoppable style of thrash-gone-grind speedfreak hardcore, DIE CHOKING’s already frighteningly unhinged attack will be witnessed with even greater magnitude on the as-yet-unnamed LP, with even faster BPM-rates and more complicated arrangements employed in the design work of the songs. Through the expert production of Will Yip (Lauryn Hill, Circa Survive, Blacklisted, Cop Problem) the band’s notoriously rabid anthems will be captured in the most realistically devastating way possible. Stand by for studio updates in April followed by additional info on DIE CHOKING’s impending debut album including a label destination and more.

Today, top-tier musician portal, Gear Gods, has posted an exclusive Rigged feature on the bulldozing accuracy of DIE CHOKING drummer Joshua Cohen (also of Cop Problem), showcasing the percussionist’s deadly works with a playthrough video. The clip includes some live studio sessions of cuts from the band’s debut self-titled and follow-up II EPs, filmed at the Brown Commune Studio in Philly with Daniel Kishbaugh in January 2015, a breakdown of the gear, and a multi-camera delivery of the band’s percussive creativity.

Check out the DIE CHOKING feature at Gear Gods RIGHT HERE.

Also view the band’s recent video for “Tonsil” HERE and order The Compound’s limited mailorder edition of the II 7” and its self-titled predecessor HERE.

DIE CHOKING has also confirmed a battery of new tour dates for the Spring thaw, including a Northeast mini-tour with NYC tech death executioners, Artificial Brain. Beginning March 26th, the four-city run includes shows in New Castle, Baltimore and Pittsburgh before closing down in Montclair, New Jersey on March 29th, and will see Mother Brain, Kreig, Occult 45, Dendritic Arbor, Meth Quarry, Organ Dealer, Sunrot and more joining the chaos. April will see DIE CHOKING recording their LP and playing alongside Starkweather, Darkside NYC, Edgewise, Dysphoria on April 25th in Philly. May takes the band to the Midwest for shows in Milwaukee and Chicago surrounding their performance at No Tomorrow Fest in Appleton, Wisconsin joining MDC, Channel 3, Hemdale, Sick/Tired, Tenement, Cloud Rat and more, and also sees them returning to NYC, New England and more. Stand by for new tour dates in the coming weeks.

DIE CHOKING, shoved their second EP of hyperactive, earthmoving grind/thrash down the world’s collective throat, with II. Comprised of members previously/currently hailing from other acts Total Fucking Destruction, Cop Problem, Burden and more, the band follows up their self-titled debut EP with another five tracks in less than six minutes, the material swarming with even more enraged and psychotic songwriting, and more of an ominous powerviolence approach, while stepping things up in the songwriting department and delivery on all levels. II was recorded and mixed at Mark It Zero Studios with Dan O’Hare (Brutal Truth) and mastered by Brad Boatright (Tragedy, Baptists, Code Orange Kids) at Audiosiege. The 7” is 300 copies on vibrant red vinyl, each copy joined by a document that function’s as a real, personal Living Will, in the theme of the closing track, “Tonsil.” Fans of Wormrot, Brutal Truth, Human Remains, Magrudergrind and Noisear don’t walk away without it.

THE COMPOUND & EARSPLIT DISTRO Update: GODHUNTER And AMIGO THE DEVIL, LAE, WINO & CONNY OCHS & More

earsplit-distro-compound-double

THE EARSPLIT COMPOUND continues to infiltrate the populous with quality non-mainstream music through its three subdivided branches of public propaganda — EARSPLIT PR, THE COMPOUND RECS, and EARSPLIT DISTRO — and here declares the latest actions on behalf of its label and mailorder sects for the first quarter of 2015. THE COMPOUND RECS methodically plots the deployment of new works from across the musical underworld through cult label sub-faction, THE COMPOUND RECS, including the new collaboration from GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL, the impending vinyl version of Break The Clasp from LAE, and much more. New and exclusive wares are also now available through EARSPLIT DISTRO, including preorders for the second collaborative LP from WINO & CONNY OCHS, as the only US outlet to purchase the vinyl edition of the album.

GODHUNTER-AMIGO front_print

Out as of Valentine’s Day is the new collaborative release from political sludge faction, GODHUNTER, and banjo-attacking murderfolk soloist, AMIGO THE DEVIL, a succinct but imposing two-song release capturing both bands in an entirely new approach. GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL PRESENTS: The Outer Dark leads off with a barren hymn, “Weeping Willow,” wrought with both beauty and sadness, ill-omened from the start. The video for the track, created by Frank Huang (Metal Injection’s Pit Full Of Shit), was recently premiered at popular rock underworld portal, The Obelisk RIGHT HERE. On the B-Side, a stark rendition of Nirvana’s iconic ballad, “Something In The Way” pays homage to the already bleak anthem, painted with the foreboding, southwestern Americana vibe of the collaboration, which was released in conjunction with GODHUNTER’s Battleground Records. Stream the entire 7” HERE.

LAE-cover

Following its CD and digital release in November, Break The Clasp, from Montreal-based post-rock/hardcore outfit LAE — featuring lead vocalist Steve Austin from Today Is The Day — is now being constructed in its prime, intended format, with the vinyl edition now in the production process. With nearly fifty-three minutes of unearthly, heartbreaking, psychedelic audio artistry delivered in four segments — Life, Hope, Love, Death — fans of Three Mile Pilot, Pink Floyd, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac, early Today Is The Day and more will be instantly hooked. Having restructured their original lineup and works forged in the Y2K era as LAE-TSU, this dynamic five-piece invited Steve Austin to produce the album, which landed him a seat as the band’s new lead vocalist. Recording in founding member Marc Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, accordion and more to capture their debut full-length, Break The Clasp was captured on an arsenal of vintage analog equipment, mastered at Austin Enterprises and bearing artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label). Break The Clasp is out now on all digital platforms as well as eco-friendly, 6-panel, spot-varnish digipak CD, and a massive 180-gram gatefold double-LP will be available this late Spring/early Summer. Two videos for the album are also in construction. Stream Break The Clasp in its entirety and order the CD/digital RIGHT HERE. Vinyl preorders coming mid-March.

WP_20150212_20_14_33_Pro

And as the anxiously anticipated second collaborative LP from American doom metal legend and solo artist, SCOTT “WINO” WEINRICH, and iconic German singer/songwriter, CONNY OCHS, entitled Freedom Conspiracy nears late March release via Germany’s Exile On Mainstream, EARSPLIT DISTRO has just posted preorder links to both the CD and LP version. Not only is our depot the ONLY outlet in the US from which to order the vinyl version, but the first fifteen preorders of the LP will also receive a FREE copy of CONNY OCHSSuiciety 7”, with two new songs and an outtake from the Raw Love Songs sessions, initially released to accompany Ochs’ November tour in November 2014 European tour with labelmates, Kristian Harting and Friedemann, limited to 300 copies worldwide. Recorded at Kabumm Studio with producer Thommy Krawallo, as was their Heavy Kingdom LP, the newest collection of ambitious, harrowing and beautiful music created by WINO & CONNY OCHS not only brings forth the same quality of organically conceived folk/rock fans of the previous album should expect, it simply excels in every imaginable aspect. Freedom Conspiracy’s approach is slightly different from Heavy Kingdom as it has been created in a much more organic way with rudimentary ideas brought in by each and then carved into songs by both together. Fusing acoustic and electric guitars and with both artists’ standout vocal styles searing through these thirteen well-crafted brand new hymns, the album delivers forty-five minutes of some of the most refined, dynamic and unforgettable folk/rock music in years. Fans of Woodie Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, The Black Crowes, Scott Kelly, Mike Scheidt and the like should make sure this duo is on your radar. Imported from Germany, the LP version of Freedom Conspiracy is pressed on 180-gram black vinyl in a reverse board sleeve with thermographic print and an extensive booklet, the CD packaged in a mini-gatefold with booklet and matt laminate varnish. Preorders can be placed in the US right HERE and internationally via Exile On Mainstream HERE.

Since the release of ENABLER’s Flies CDEP on Samhain 2013, EARSPLIT’s DIY label division, THE COMPOUND, has been responsible for GODHUNTER’s City Of Dust album and split GH/0ST:S LP with SECRETS OF THE SKY, COP PROBLEM’s Buried Beneath White Noise 7”, ENABLER’s La Fin Absolue Du Monde sophomore album (now released through Century Media for Europe), DIE CHOKING’s self-titled debut 7” and II follow-up 7”, the magnificent Break The Clasp debut album from LAE, featuring Steve Austin of Today Is The Day on lead vocals, and the recent collaborative GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL 7”. Updates on future releases and endeavors are being prepped for broadcast in the coming days.

Also stay frosty with updates from EARSPLIT DISTRO as new stock from our cohorts at Eolian Empire, 20 Buck Spin, Supernatural Cat, Selfmadegod, Battleground Records, Indisiplinarian, Exile On Mainstream and more, with new titles from Ufomammut, Rabbits, Encoffination, Treedeon, Secret Cutter, Graves At Sea, Big Black Cloud, Deivos and tons more now joining the hundreds of other releases in our arsenal. GODHUNTER and AMIGO THE DEVIL Release “Weeping Willow” Video Via The Obelisk; The Outer Dark To See Valentine’s Day Release

GODHUNTER-AMIGO front_print

GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL Present: The Outer Dark, the first recorded collaboration between the downtrodden sludge/metal perpetrators and banjo-strumming murderfolk soloist, will see release on Valentine’s Day. The morose two-song 7” bears a heart-wrenching original track named “Weeping Willow” leading things off on the A-side, and a stark rendition of Nirvana’s “Something In The Way” on the B-side, and the whole thing showcasing both acts in an entirely new way.

Now just a week from its morose public destination, The Obelisk has exclusively premiered a new video for the A-side ballad of GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL Present: The Outer Dark, showcasing the track for the first time, and fitting raw Western movie footage into the beautifully bleak, ill-omened tune. The “Weeping Willow” video was created by Frank Huang, diehard videographer for Metal Injection’s Pit Full Of Shit live video column and more. Alongside the video’s release, The Obelisk offers in part of the split, “GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL offer two slices of downer neofolk, doomed in spirit, of weighted emotionality, but subdued and brooding rather than aggressive.”

Experience GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL’s “Weeping Willow” for the first time at THIS LOCATION.

Vice Magazine’s music channel, Noisey, is streaming the “Something In The Way” reinterpretation RIGHT HERE.

GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL Present: The Outer Dark is on its way from the plant, destined for grim unveiling on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14th, as a co-release between GODHUNTER-partially-owned Battleground Records and EARSPLIT’s label subdivision, The Compound. With an ominous, acoustic, folk/Western musical theme far removed from GODHUNTER’s abrasive hardcore/crust-influenced sludge tones, here the quintet — guitarists/vocalists Jake Brazelton and David Rodgers, bassist Dick Williamson, drummer Andy Kratzenberg, and keyboardist/cellist Matthew Davis — is joined by one Danny Kiranos, a.k.a. AMIGO THE DEVIL, who supplies soaring vocals and ethereal Theremin contributions to the two-song 7”. The Outer Dark was recorded in multiple sessions during the Summer of 2014 at Arcane Digital Studios in Chandler, Arizona, and was produced, mixed and mastered by Ryan Butler.

Cut at 45RPM GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL Present: The Outer Dark is pressed on solid black wax and included a lyric/liner sheet. Orders can be placed with The Compound / Earsplit Distro on wax HERE and digital HERE, and via Battleground Records HERE and HERE.

Montreal’s psychedelic post-rock quintet, LAE, has put two brand new videos into construction for release over the coming months as the deluxe 2xLP version of their debut LP, Break The Clasp, is about to hit the pressing plant for an early Springtime release. A visual depiction of the diverse track, “Sister,” which features some of the heaviest moments on Break The Clasp and one of the few scathing deliveries from vocalist Steve Austin (Today Is The Day) on the album, has been commissioned to David Hall of Handshake Inc. (Brutal Truth, Today is the Day, Maryland Deathfest: the Movie). Additionally, the members of LAE are working on a video for the album’s magnificently heartbreaking “To Give You The Stars Above” anthem in-house.

Both new visual accompaniments to Break The Clasp will see release late this Winter or early Spring, just as LAE prepares to release the mammoth vinyl edition of the album, which is currently being readied for the pressing plant. The final details on the pressing are still being locked up, but both platters will be constructed of 180-gram or thicker heavyweight vinyl with a colored run, and will be housed in a double gatefold jacket with spot varnish on the front and back, with poly-lined black sleeves and a digital download card. Preorders for the 2xLP edition of Break The Clasp will be available in the coming weeks with a variety of package options.

Break The Clasp is out now on The Compound and Battleground Records. The six-panel, spot-varnished, eco-friendly digipak can be ordered HERE, the digital via BandCamp, iTunes , Google Play and more.

A monumentally dejected yet inspiring nearly hour-long psychedelic journey through thirteen dynamic movements, LAE’s Break The Clasp saw its initial digital and CD release at the end of November as a collaborative effort between The Compound Recs, Battleground Records and LAE themselves. Recorded in full analog in main songwriter Marc Lucas Ablasou’s woodshop in Montreal by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day and Austin Enterprises, who provided lead vocals to the entire album, the lineup is completed by Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier, Stephane Desgroseilliers. Re-envisioning their original anthems — penned under initial moniker LAE-TSEU in the mid-late 1990s — alongside new songs, the band recorded live on vintage 1970s equipment utilizing a range of guitars, basses, drums, accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and a multitude of vocal styles into a four-part storyline of life, love, hope and death. Following several overdub sessions at Austin Enterprises where the songs were mixed and mastered, the album was shrouded by otherworldly artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), completing this transcendentally gloomy yet beautifully delivered opus.

LAE has also been intensely writing new material for their follow-up to Break The Clasp. Check out a photo set of the band in the frozen Montreal Winter on the band’s official Facebook page HERE.

“…the heart-on-sleeve frontman that Austin occasionally embodies is on full display here, with only snippets of backwoods dementia seeping through. And the band has created an ideal atmosphere, borrowing liberally from the likes of Slint and Tortoise with mesmeric rhythms and askew harmonies, while adding dollops of psych and the occasional metallic bombast that’s actually reminiscent of early TITD. 8/10” – Decibel Magazine

“The resultant record is a fragmentary, shifting record, switching between Slint-like passages of angular guitar and sung-spoken vocals and abrasive assaults (witness the caustic fuzz at the core of ‘Sister’), punctuated by acoustic sketches in the shape of ‘Broken Knee’, ‘Let Me Die In The Memory Of Her Arms’ and ‘Space Travel’…” – The Quietus

“…the vitality in the 13 tracks (yes, even the crushingly slow ones) is fresh to the point of its newness, and even the parts meant to be abrasive, opener ‘Sexy Sadie’ or pieces of ‘17 Queen’ for example, hold onto a wonderful depth the mix and a feeling of texture that feeds Break the Clasp’s otherworldly spirit and brings you along its path of consuming strangeness. Austin is a presence, but by no means the star, and the whole band Lae shines across Break the Clasp’s fascinating span. A debut no one knew they were awaiting, but they were.” – The Obelisk

“#22 (out of 100) album of 2014.” – Emoragei Magazine

“…echoes psychedelic progressive rock and post-rock but the overall picture is far more expansive… wholly unique and escapes categorization.” – American Aftermath

GODHUNTER and AMIGO THE DEVIL Release Cover Of Nirvana’s “Something In The Way” From Collaborative EP Via Noisey; Preorders Posted

GODHUNTER-AMIGO front_print

The Compound and Battleground Records are preparing for the early 2015 release of The Outer Dark, a collaborative 7” from Tucson’s GODHUNTER and Miami’s AMIGO THE DEVIL, today partnering with Noisey to premiere the collective’s homage to Nirvana with the B-side cover of “Something In The Way.”

With an ominous, acoustic, folk/Western musical theme far removed from GODHUNTER’s abrasive hardcore/crust-influenced sludge tones, here the quintet — guitarists/vocalists Jake Brazelton, David Rodgers, bassist Dick Williamson, drummer Andy Kratzenberg, and keyboardist/cellist Matthew Davis — is joined by one Danny Kiranos, a.k.a. AMIGO THE DEVIL, who supplies soaring vocals and ethereal Theremin contributions to the two-song 7” The Outer Dark. Delivered at 45RPM on quality black wax for maximum clarity, the A-side’s “Weeping Willow” is a fully original, ill-omened ballad from the collective, while the B-side is a bleak rendition of Nirvana’s “Something In The Way.” The record was recorded in multiple sessions during the Summer of 2014 at Arcane Digital Studios in Chandler, Arizona, and was produced, mixed and mastered by Ryan Butler.

Vice Magazine’s music channel, Noisey, has posted an exclusive stream of “Something In The Way.” Listen now at THIS LOCATION.

The Outer Dark will see release on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2015, through a union of Earsplit’s label, The Compound Recs, and GODHUNTER-co-owned Battleground Records. Preorders for the digital download are now posted HERE, and for the 7” version HERE. All preorders of the physical 7″ will be entered to win a test pressing copy of the release.

In 2014 both bands were very active tour-wise, as GODHUNTER has endured more live touring than ever including several tours of the Western US, and both GODHUNTER and AMIGO THE DEVIL having performed at the third annual installment of Southwest Terror Fest in October. New live actions from both parties will be announced in the months ahead, with new recorded material from both acts coming together as well, including GODHUNTER’s next recording due out in the Summer of 2015 and much more.

THE COMPOUND: New Release Update; LAE, DIE CHOKING, GODHUNTER / SECRETS OF THE SKY And More Out Now

The Compound-Fall 2014

Since its inception last year, Earsplit’s DIY label division, The Compound, has been painstakingly forging paths for our close allies, with our seventh official release now out on in the back-alleys of the planet.

Beginning with our maiden title, releasing ENABLER’s Flies EP on Samhain 2013, The Compound has since been responsible for GODHUNTER’s City Of Dust album and split GH/0ST:S LP with SECRETS OF THE SKY, COP PROBLEM’s Buried Beneath White Noise 7”, ENABLER’s La Fin Absolue Du Monde sophomore album (now being released by Century Media for Europe), DIE CHOKING’s self-titled debut 7” and II follow-up 7”, and most recently, the magnificent Break The Clasp debut album from LAE, featuring Steve Austin of Today Is The Day on lead vocals.

Check out the latest on our newest titles below and watch for more news as The Compound begins prepping new releases for 2015, including tunes from LAE, GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL, CLASSHOLE, VISE MASSACRE and much more.

LAE – Break The Clasp

Performing under their original moniker, LAE-TSEU, the outfit now known as LAE impacted the Quebec art and post-hardcore/emo/indie circuits in the apocalypse-ready Y2K era of the mid-1990s. In 2013, the band went through an incredible rebirth, completely re-envisioning their original songs with new life knowledge. To capture this soundtrack, the band contracted Steve Austin (Today Is The Day), flying him and an arsenal of gear from his Austin Enterprises from Maine to record in Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, multiple electric organs and pianos and more to capture their long-awaited full-length, fully recorded on an arsenal of vintage analog equipment. However, during the recording process, Austin ended up performing lead vocals to the entire album in addition to other musical contributions. Mastered at Austin Enterprises and enshrouded with artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), LAE’s Break The Clasp encompasses nearly fifty-three minutes of unearthly, heartbreaking, psychedelic audio artistry delivered in four segments; Life, Hope, Love, Death. Fans of Three Mile Pilot, Pink Floyd, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac, early Today Is The Day and more will be instantly hooked. Break The Clasp is out now on all digital platforms as well as eco-friendly, 6-panel, spot-varnish digipak CD, and a massive 180-gram gatefold 2xLP will be available in early 2015 as LAE begins to tour North America on the album. Stream Break The Clasp in its entirety and order the CD/digital RIGHT HERE.

DIE CHOKING – II

Philadelphia’s demolition trio, DIE CHOKING, shoved their second EP of hyperactive, earthmoving grind/thrash down the world’s collective throat, with II. The first pressing limited to 300 copies on vibrant red 7” vinyl, enclosed in the 7” is a document that function’s as a real, personal Living Will, in the theme of the closing track, “Tonsil.” Check out the new video for “Tonsil” HERE and order The Compound’s exclusive mailorder edition limited to 30 copies with the Will printed on paper bag brown HERE.

GODHUNTER / SECRETS OF THE SKY – GH/0ST:S

On their 2014 Southwest US tour together, Tucson-based sludge metal bandits, GODHUNTER and Oakland’s cinematic doom outfit, SECRETS OF THE SKY, were selling a limited edition cassette version of a new split release entitled GH/0ST:S. On this combined effort, both bands showcase even further experimentation into each of their respective crafts, with forty minutes of material, including a crushing new opus from each band, as well as a haunting, thematic accompaniment bearing the “ghosts” theme. Through a joint effort with GODHUNTER’s Battleground Records, GH/0ST:S is now available digitally as well as on a killer 180-gram black/white vinyl swirl LP including a download card, limited to 300 copies. Stream all of GH/0ST:S and purchase the wax and digital HERE.
