THE COMPOUND RECS methodically plots the deployment of new works from across the musical underworld through cult label sub-faction, THE COMPOUND RECS, including the new collaboration from GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL, the impending vinyl version of Break The Clasp from LAE, and much more. Out as of Valentine’s Day is the new collaborative release from political sludge faction, GODHUNTER, and banjo-attacking murderfolk soloist, AMIGO THE DEVIL, a succinct but imposing two-song release capturing both bands in an entirely new approach. GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL PRESENTS: The Outer Dark leads off with a barren hymn, “Weeping Willow,” wrought with both beauty and sadness, ill-omened from the start. The video for the track, created by Frank Huang (Metal Injection’s Pit Full Of Shit), was recently premiered at popular rock underworld portal, The Obelisk RIGHT HERE. On the B-Side, a stark rendition of Nirvana’s iconic ballad, “Something In The Way” pays homage to the already bleak anthem, painted with the foreboding, southwestern Americana vibe of the collaboration, which was released in conjunction with GODHUNTER’s Battleground Records. Following its CD and digital release in November, Break The Clasp, from Montreal-based post-rock/hardcore outfit LAE — featuring lead vocalist Steve Austin from Today Is The Day — is now being constructed in its prime, intended format, with the vinyl edition now in the production process. With nearly fifty-three minutes of unearthly, heartbreaking, psychedelic audio artistry delivered in four segments — Life, Hope, Love, Death — fans of Three Mile Pilot, Pink Floyd, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac, early Today Is The Day and more will be instantly hooked. Having restructured their original lineup and works forged in the Y2K era as LAE-TSU, this dynamic five-piece invited Steve Austin to produce the album, which landed him a seat as the band’s new lead vocalist. Recording in founding member Marc Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, accordion and more to capture their debut full-length, Break The Clasp was captured on an arsenal of vintage analog equipment, mastered at Austin Enterprises and bearing artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label). The morose two-song 7” bears a heart-wrenching original track named “Weeping Willow” leading things off on the A-side, and a stark rendition of Nirvana’s “Something In The Way” on the B-side, and the whole thing showcasing both acts in an entirely new way.

Now just a week from its morose public destination, The Obelisk has exclusively premiered a new video for the A-side ballad of GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL Present: The Outer Dark, showcasing the track for the first time, and fitting raw Western movie footage into the beautifully bleak, ill-omened tune. The “Weeping Willow” video was created by Frank Huang, diehard videographer for Metal Injection’s Pit Full Of Shit live video column and more. The Compound and Battleground Records are preparing for the early 2015 release of The Outer Dark, a collaborative 7” from Tucson’s GODHUNTER and Miami’s AMIGO THE DEVIL, today partnering with Noisey to premiere the collective’s homage to Nirvana with the B-side cover of “Something In The Way.”

In 2013, the band went through an incredible rebirth, completely re-envisioning their original songs with new life knowledge. To capture this soundtrack, the band contracted Steve Austin (Today Is The Day), flying him and an arsenal of gear from his Austin Enterprises from Maine to record in Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, multiple electric organs and pianos and more to capture their long-awaited full-length, fully recorded on an arsenal of vintage analog equipment. However, during the recording process, Austin ended up performing lead vocals to the entire album in addition to other musical contributions. Philadelphia’s demolition trio, DIE CHOKING, shoved their second EP of hyperactive, earthmoving grind/thrash down the world’s collective throat, with II. Comprised of members previously/currently hailing from other acts Total Fucking Destruction, Cop Problem, Burden and more, the band follows up their self-titled debut EP with another five tracks in less than six minutes, the material swarming with even more enraged and psychotic songwriting, and more of an ominous powerviolence approach, while stepping things up in the songwriting department and delivery on all levels. II was recorded and mixed at Mark It Zero Studios with Dan O’Hare (Brutal Truth) and mastered by Brad Boatright (Tragedy, Baptists, Code Orange Kids) at Audiosiege. GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL Present Collaborative 7-Inch EP For Black Friday

As Tucson’s GODHUNTER takes their confrontational auditory demolition back out on the road this week for a twelve-city West Coast run with Sorxe, the band announces yet another new set of recordings destined to see release this Fall.

After the release of their debut album, City Of Dust and the more recent GH/0ST:S split LP with Oakland’s Secrets Of The Sky both released this year, GODHUNTER now announces a collaborative EP with Miami-based AMIGO THE DEVIL. While all of GODHUNTER’s 2014 releases have shown their generally crushing sludge/crust-influenced hardcore grooves giving way to more ethereal, organic rock influences, expanding the use of keys and acoustic instruments, the newly completed collaboration presents an incredible new sound completely. The charismatic murderfolk of AMIGO THE DEVIL, currently calling Miami, Florida home, features the soulful vocals and Americana-based anthems of one Danny Kiranos, who here unites with GODHUNTER, who provides virtually all instrumentation on these two incredibly accessible, somber and beautiful yet ominous tracks. The collaboration, The Outer Dark, includes one original tune, “Weeping Willow,” paired with an awesome cover of Nirvana’s “Something In The Way” on the B-side.

As with City Of Dust and GH/0ST:S, The Outer Dark will see release through a union of GODHUNTER-co-owned Battleground Records and Earsplit’s label The Compound, who will release the album on 7” vinyl on Black Friday, November 28th. Preorders audio from the release and more will be released in the near future. Nearly all of GODHUNTER’s prior releases are available via The Compound HERE.

Later this month, both bands will perform at Southwest Terror Fest III: The Western Front — the massive Tucson-based musical gathering co-created by members of GODHUNTER among others — with GODHUNTER performing at the Rialto Theatre on Saturday, October 17th with Eagle Twin, Pelican and Goatsnake, and AMIGO THE DEVIL performing sporadically and randomly at both The Rialto Theatre and the nearby The District Tavern over the entire four-day event. Leading up to the fest, GODHUNTER will torch the West Coast alongside Phoenix-based Sorxe, the tour beginning this Thursday, October 2nd. Both bands will perform at the two-day Lucifest II with Demon Lung, Reproacher, Secrets of the Sky and others, and will join the likes of Graves At Sea and more along the way before closing the tour down at SWTF.

GODHUNTER / SECRETS OF THE SKY: Digital Version Of GH/0ST:S Split LP Out Today + Now Playing At Revolver Magazine

GH/0ST:S, the split album between Tucson’s politically-motivated sludgecore instigators, GODHUNTER, and Oakland’s creators of cinematic, engulfing doom metal, SECRETS OF THE SKY, is now available to the public for digital consumption.

A collaboratively-released effort between GODHUNTER’s own Battleground Records and Earsplit’s label, The Compound, GH/0ST:S bears nearly thirty-five minutes of brand new material, each leading off with a mammoth original track and followed by a more serene and experimental track bearing the “ghosts” theme. GODHUNTER’s A-side tracks were recorded and mixed by Ryan Bram at Homewrecker Studios, and SECRETS OF THE SKY’s B-side tunes recorded and mixed by Juan Urteaga at Trident Studios, after which the entire release was mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Following its limited edition cassette release for their Southwestern tour together this Spring, GH/0ST:S will see a deluxe LP release on September 30th — the wax unexpectedly missing its initial release today due to being delayed in manufacturing — pressed on 180-gram black/white swirl wax in a run of 300 copies each including a digital download. But the digital release is today available for purchase via Bandcamp, and to help celebrate, Revolver Magazine is hosting an exclusive stream of the entire LP.

“The Star” — the prime track leading off the SECRETS OF THE SKY-owned B-side of the GH/0ST:S LP, the band’s impending split album with GODHUNTER — is now playing through an exclusive premiere at MetalSucks.

Featuring the newest recordings from the Oakland, California-based cinematic doom metal outfit since their acclaimed 2013-releaed debut full-length, To Sail Black Waters, the SECRETS OF THE SKY-owned B-side of the LP, leads off with “The Star.” The nearly seven-minute opus picking up directly where the album left off boasts the band’s gargantuan doom metal riffage and spacious, otherworldly atmospheres, slickly delivered with impeccably tunderous production, the result of the band’s return to Trident Studios with engineer Juan Urteaga (Testament, Machine Head, Cattle Decapitation), who recorded both of the band’s works. GODHUNTER: Invisible Oranges Lets Loose Opening Track From Split LP With SECRETS OF THE SKY

“Pursuit/Predator,” GODHUNTER’s latest plodding and antagonizing anthem and the lead track to the band’s upcoming GH/0ST:S split LP with SECRETS OF THE SKY, is now playing a month ahead of the album’s release at Invisible Oranges.

The GH/0ST:S LP showcases some of the most expansive new material from both bands, with both acts’ latest contributions including some of their more ethereal works, as well as some of their most savage and homicidal lyrical persuasions. Opening the GODHUNTER-dominated A-side of the LP, the Tucson-based sludge metal act forms rifts in the land with the seven-minute “Pursuit/Predator.” Reanimating the lineage of the infamous Zodiac Killer, a feedback-soaked intro leads into an acrid, dirge-ridden execution anthem, and after leveling everything for most of the song’s duration, a bellowing gang-chant atop an organic bed of acoustic guitars and mournful string elements bring the track to a smoldering finale. Invisible Oranges issues on the track, “’Pursuit/Predator’ documents a harsh dose of reality, but the presentation is ever so inviting. Guitarists David Rodgers and Jake Brazelton and bassist Dick Williamson combine to form a massive, world-swallowing tone. Drummer Andy Kratzenberg propels the song with a steady swing and ably brings the group’s punk influences to the surface when the jolt is needed. Singer Charlie Touseull has that bellow which will always be imitated in showers and cars. And wildcard Matthew Davis adds a nice touch of cello to the acoustic outro. In the end, it pulls off the neat trick of all solid sludge, making violence and anguish feel so good.”

Having just completed a co-headlining tour of the lower southwestern realms of America together, Oakland’s SECRETS OF THE SKY and Tucson’s GODHUNTER have released a post-tour account of their journey together, documenting some of the pros, cons, and random insanity two independent acts sometimes encounter on such a venture, via tour sponsor, American Aftermath.

On the recent Southwest US trek, GODHUNTER and SECRETS OF THE SKY were mongering the limited-to-100 copies, tour-only, cassette-edition of a new split release between both acts.
